Upcoming LoveLight Placemaking Popup Artisan Markets- 1st Sundays at the Fields-each 1st Sunday of Feb-Dec at Indian Fields Tavern & 5 Fields Brewing in Charles City Va!
Often called the Artists & Musician’s Mom- our 2nd Sundays & LoveLight Placemaking Founder & Director, Shirley Vermillion, has been looking for opportunities to fill in “holes” in Williamsburg & the area’s creative community and highlight the area’s talent since 2007(First Colony (her neighborhood) Art Bazaar was where the artist & artisan organizing began, which led to the beginning of 2nd Sundays in 2010).
To add a little more local handmade shopping during the Holiday season in 2021 and to give Grand Illumination Tourists, and families getting photos with Santa more to do in downtown Williamsburg while they awaited nighttime activities, she added some Pop Up Maker’s Markets on Prince George Street on the Saturdays between Thanksgiving and Christmas before Valentine’s Day 2022.
When the City of Williamsburg decided to revoke the permit for additional pop ups on Prince George Street in Sept of 2022- Vermillion followed her LoveLight Placemaking mission of spreading Arts, Music and Creativity all around, building CommUNITY, partnering with event spaces with residents and businesses that fully embrace the concept of creative placemaking & “TOGETHER we’re BETTER!” She also answered the call of many in First Colony to bring back the First Colony Art Bazaar on 11/26/22 10a-4p! Several weekends of successful Midtown Row’s Maker’s Markets, down in December of 2022, now on to some long awaited SweetheART Markets in February of 2023, collaborating, spreading the creative vibes further… we held our inaugural SweetheART Markets at Indian Fields Tavern’s Big Barn in Charles City, Va on Sun 2/5/23 and began a very popular, ever growing 1st Sundays at the Fields Artisan Market there each month Feb- Dec, at Alewerks in Williamsburg on Sat 2/11/23 and added a few artists to the indoor lineup of artisans at Frothy Moon Brewhouse in Feb & again in December! We close out each years’ popups Cohosting First Colony Art Trail with Caitlin Robertson Rudders of Nobska Craftsmen (our Director’s Neighborhood- on 11/22/25 she had 15 artisans along with live musicians set up in her yard at 160 John Rolfe Lane, Williamsburg, Va) . In 2026- the Art Trail will be set up in 1 location again- like it all started- at First Colony Clubhouse & park at 125 Pasbehegh on Sat 11/21/26 from 10-4p! We’ve been focusing on steadily growing our 1st Sundays markets at Indian Fields Tavern, are in the middle of our 4th year now and are super exited about the market’s growth as their on site brewery, 5 Fields Brewing, serving great 5 Fields beers, but also a variety of wine, bubbly, and national brand seltzers & beers are the BEST partners with the most beautiful farmland surrounding us!
